Era Alaska Becomes the Latest Sponsor of the Alaska Business Week Program
Era Alaska announced today it is offering 20 round-trip tickets to qualifying Alaska Business Week students coming from over 100 communities they serve throughout the state of Alaska. In addition, Era Alaska is offering a special airfare discount for all other participants and volunteers.
Lori Goodman, marketing director for Era Alaska said, “We want to encourage high school students from the areas we serve to participate in Alaska Business Week.
We are pleased to be able to offer these tickets and discounts as our contribution to this very worthwhile program. “
Alaska Business Week is sponsored by the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, and modeled after the very successful and long-running Washington Business Week program. It is a discovery-learning program for high school students to be held at the UAF campus August 8-14. This weeklong program is staged at the university to provide student participants the experience of college life and explore their leadership potential. Limited to 100 students, this program includes a simulated ‘corporate’ environment replicating some of the challenges and opportunities of life after high school, raising students’ awareness of career choices, workplace issues, teamwork, money management, networking and leadership potential.
There are a number of opportunities for business leaders to work directly with students to act as mentors throughout the weeklong program. The students present their final work at the end of the program to a panel of judges selected by the Alaska State Chamber.
A reduced tuition for the program is $325, thanks to the generous contributions of many founding sponsors, including Tesoro Alaska, BP, Icicle Seafoods, State Farm, TOTE, GVEA, Alaska Airlines, Era Alaska, AadlandFlint, the Alaska Railroad and the Alaska League of Credit Unions. The tuition covers room, board, program materials, and activity fees on campus for the entire week. Scholarships are also available.
