Rep. Guttenberg comments on Alyeska President stepping down
Change is an opportunity to “improve TAPS’ safety and integrity”
FAIRBANKS – Today, Representative David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks) offered the following statement on Kevin Hostler’s announcement that he is stepping down as Alyeska Pipeline Company’s president:
“Alyeska employees take seriously their responsibilities to maintain the TAPS line safely. Hopefully, new leadership at Alyeska will once again listen to these employees and their insights into how to maintain and improve TAPS’ safety and integrity. Recently, Alyeska has ignored employee concerns about moving critical personnel away from the line they’re responsible for and created an atmosphere where employees felt their jobs were at risk if they spoke out against reckless cost-cutting measures. The TAPS line is Alaska’s economic lifeline, and we can’t afford to skimp on maintaining it.”
Representative Guttenberg has led efforts to get Alyeska to listen to employee concerns on the personnel move and internal communications problems. Read his recent op-ed in the Fairbanks News Miner.
