Rep. Young Secures Key Funding For Alaska In Defense Appropriations
Washington, D.C. – Alaskan Congressman Don Young has secured $6 million for Alaskan constituent projects of interest in H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, Fiscal Year 2010.
Alaska Projects Secured by Rep. Young in H.R. 3326:
- $3,000,000 -- Synthetic Liquid Fuels for Fairbanks North Star Borough
- $3,000,000 -- Under-Vehicle Inspection System, KRD, Inc. in Homer
“Defense Appropriations are incredibly important, especially now, with our ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Rep. Young. “The two projects I was able to secure funding for are incredibly important projects and I’m proud of them. I visited with KRD, Inc last year, and viewed their Under-Vehicle Inspection System first-hand and can tell you that the advanced technology they have developed is of the greatest importance for the times we are living in.
“Additionally, the coal to liquid project requested by the Fairbanks North Star Borough, will supply the U.S. Air Force and other military branches a secure supply of synthetic fuels to operate fighters, bombers and other aircraft and military equipment. Such technology can be invaluable to our military. A coal to liquid plant in Fairbanks would also dramatically lower the costs of energy in the Interior and Rural Alaska and could enhance recovery of crude oil in Alaska, extending the life of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
"I am disappointed that the money for the F-22’s was not included in this bill; I think that is a big mistake. The F-22 is the best fighter in the world and important to ensuring our military’s air dominance. Now is not the time to cut funds for such important equipment.
“This bill is incredibly important to ensure that our military is run well and efficiently, and I’m proud that Alaska contributes so much to our military operations. Members of the military in Alaska, and their families, are an incredibly special group of people, and I respect, support, and appreciate the sacrifices they make on behalf of our freedom.”
