John Katz to Continue as Director and Special Counsel in Washington, D.C. Office
(July 10, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska) - Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell today announced he will retain John Katz as Director of State and Federal Relations and Special Counsel to the Governor in Washington, D.C.
"John Katz has capably served Alaskans and Alaska governors for many years," Lieutenant Governor Parnell said. "I have worked with John on many issues and greatly respect his experience and abilities. I look forward to working with John from the Governor's office."
Katz first served as Special Counsel to Governor Jay Hammond in 1979, advocating the state's position concerning the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA). From 1981-1983 Katz served as Commissioner of Alaska Department of Natural Resources. He then worked in the Governor's Washington, D.C., office as Director of State and Federal Relations and Special Counsel to the Governor beginning in 1983. Mr. Katz has served with Governors Sheffield, Cowper, Hickel, Knowles, Murkowski and Palin.
Katz holds a bachelor of arts degree from Johns Hopkins University and a juris doctorate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Katz has also received an honorary degree from the University of Alaska in 1994 and was awarded the Commonwealth North Walter J. Hickel Award for Distinguished Public Policy Leadership in 2008.
