Alaska's Outer Continental Shelf:

Creating Economic Opportunities, Jobs and Domestic Energy for the Entire Nation

Last fall, the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce adopted as one of its top five Legislative Priorities "Support for Oil and Gas Exploration and Development in Alaska's Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Waters". That Legislative Priority statement follows:

"The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce strongly supports offshore oil and gas exploration and production in Alaska's Beaufort Sea, ChukchiSea, Cook Inlet and the NorthAleutianBasin in Bristol Bay. The Chamber asks the Alaska Congressional Delegation and Governor to support responsible development of these valuable resources and organize a concerted effort to encourage Congress and the Federal Administration to enact offshore revenue sharing for states and local communities."

We encourage State Chamber members to send a letter to Secretary Salazar at the Department of the Interior urging the Department to act expeditiously and take all reasonable and appropriate steps to review, revise, and finalize the environmental analysis underpinning the 2007-2012 leasing programs off the coast of Alaska.

Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page for a draft letter to the U.S. Department of the Interior asking that agency to expeditiously review, revise and finalize the environmental analysis underpinning the 2007-2012 leasing programs off the coast of Alaska.

If you can, please personalize the draft with your own thoughts on why the 2007-2012 Five-Year OCS program should be kept intact. Your communication might even be as simple as a note saying, "Please keep the 2007-2012 Five Year OCS program intact; our country's economy and our national security depend on increased DOMESTIC energy production." By sending this letter to Secretary Salazar, we show our support for the protection of energy consumers, the creation of jobs and strengthening the economy.
