World-class neurosurgeon establishes Alaska practice

Health care in Alaska has seen considerable growth over the past couple of years and Dr. Marius Maxwell, founder and chief neurosurgeon of the new Arctic Spine clinic in Anchorage, is at the forefront of that growth. Dr. Maxwell studied at Cambridge University, Oxford University and Harvard Medical School, and brings more than two decades of experience in the field of neurosurgery to Alaska.

Dr. Maxwell specializes in treating spine conditions such as chronic neck or back pain; bulging, collapsed or degenerative discs; sciatica; failed back surgeries; arthritis of the spine; lumbar spinal stenosis, and also manages the entire spectrum of cranial conditions such as brain tumors and skull fractures. His unique and holistic approach incorporates minimally invasive and innovative therapies that are tailored to each patient. Unlike traditional neurosurgical clinics that rely solely on invasive procedures and medical interventions, Dr. Maxwell allies with local chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, physiatrists and massage therapists to manage pain relief, enhance recovery and supplement procedures both pre- and post-operative.

“Dr. Maxwell brings superior expertise in neurosurgery and an Ivy League education to the state,” says Cynthia Morse, Practice Manager at Arctic Spine. “He is a compassionate doctor who believes in treating the person, not the patient. I don’t know of any other surgeons in Alaska quite like him.”

Dr. Maxwell has successfully performed more than 10,000 surgeries and is Board Certified with the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. He is the sole expert reviewing neurosurgeon to the Board of Medicine for the state of Alaska and has traveled and practiced neurosurgery all over the world. He is now accepting new patients at Arctic Spine, 3650 Lake Otis Parkway, Suite 202.

Arctic Spine is Alaska’s new boutique center of excellence in spine care. The practice specializes in both simple and complex spine disorders and is committed to treating patients’ neck and back pain through conservative and minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. Arctic Spine also offers the highest expertise in general neurosurgery and manages the entire spectrum of cranial conditions including brain disorders and tumors.
