Senate Majority Members Pleased with Governor’s LNG Project Announcement
ANCHORAGE-Today, Senate President Charlie Huggins (R-Wasilla) issued the following statement regarding Governor Parnell’s announcement the State will pursue becoming an equity partner in the Alaska LNG project and terminate its involvement with TransCanada under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA), and partner with the company in a more traditional commercial agreement.
“This is a business proposition. Under AGIA, TransCanada was the lead contractor for this project. But now times have changed and so has TransCanada’s role. TransCanada will still be a player. This is just a different model to help Alaskans get the affordable gas they need, while also opening up export opportunities. I think the Governor’s decision will move Alaska several steps forward in the process to getting Natural Gas off the North Slope and into use. We are looking forward to working with the Governor and his staff on this new path forward.” - Senate President Charlie Huggins, R-Wasilla.
