U.S. Senate Events
Pushing for Arctic Infrastructure
Alaskan Impact: Senator Murkowski has long pushed for more Arctic infrastructure as the waters around Alaska expand with shrinking sea ice – creating new opportunities in shipping and tourism, but also new challenges as well. In December, the Senate passed the Coast Guard Reauthorization bill which included a number of Senator Murkowski’s Arctic priorities, including a study on an Arctic deep water port. Today, the Senate discussed investment in ports even during fiscally-challenged times.

Standing Up for Sitting Down
For the 3rd year in a row, Senator Murkowski is joining with Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) in calling upon members of Congress to sit together across party lines at the President’s State of the Union Address. Last year, the two Senators led an effort that resulted in over 200 members of Congress sitting with the other party – in an attempt to avoid the frequent political theater of one side standing up while the other remains seated.
