New Anchorage Opera Education Series to Debut at Loussac Public Library
Anchorage, 16 January 2013 – Anchorage Opera is launching a new educational series, in collaboration with the Loussac Public Library. The series, Anchorage Opera Preview, held in conjunction with each opera production, will focus on the life of the composer and the times in which he lived, as well as, how the opera has transcended the traditional operatic stage and entered our popular culture.
“Opera leads a dual existence in our society today,' said AO Executive Director Kevin Patterson. "On one hand, some circles still look at opera as being an art form for a niche audience, yet, opera’s music and stories have become embedded into our everyday culture.”
The first Anchorage Opera Preview features the company’s upcoming production of Tosca. Special guests for the evening include Tosca stage director Marc Astafan, conductor Andy Anderson, and set designer Anulfo Maldonado. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions. Anchorage Opera Preview premieres on Thursday, January 24th at 7:00 pm at the Loussac Public Library, 3600 Denali Street. The event is free.
Anchorage Opera is the largest producer of the performing arts in Alaska and the first opera company in North America founded in the circumpolar North in 1962.
