International Alliance of Law Firms Selects Birch Horton as Member
Firm will provide client service in Alaska and Washington D.C.
(January 29, 2012) Minneapolis: The International Alliance of Law Firms, a worldwide legal association of 62 firms in 42 countries, announces the selection of Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot (www.birchhorton.com) as the sole Alliance representative for Alaska. This follows an extensive effort to assess and credential potential member firms in these critical markets.
Colin Cohen, president of the Alliance and a name partner with the Hong Kong firm of Boase Cohen and Collins said, "We're honored to have Birch Horton in the Alliance. Their addition advances our strategy of providing clients predictable, high quality worldwide legal service."
Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot
Founded in 1971, Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot is one of Alaska's largest, oldest and most prestigious law firms. Many important events in Alaska's history have been influenced by the firm. Two senior members helped draft and implement the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA). During the 1970s, BHBC represented the parties constructing the TransAlaska pipeline. Their litigators represented Alaska Native Corporations in cases heard by the U.S. Supreme Court that continue to affect federal procurement rules.
In 1975, Birch Horton opened its Washington, D.C. office, which quickly built a reputation as a preeminent firm specializing in government relations and regulatory practices. Today Birch Horton has 26 lawyers serving clients large and small, from multi-national corporations to Native-owned small business start-ups, and from the State of Alaska to private individuals.
Birch Horton's managing partner, Kathryn Black explains her firm's position: "We are incredibly pleased to have joined the Alliance. Our domestic and international client base continues to grow substantially and our strategic relationship with the Alliance gives us access to leading law firms around the world."
Wendy Horn, Executive Director of the Alliance commented, "Birch Horton is a perfect member firm for our organization. They are dynamic, highly talented, and successful with a first class U.S. and international client base in our key business sectors. They are team players and match our international model: independent firms bound by common quality standards and business culture, not merger."
The Alliance is a network of mid-sized law firms formed in 1998 to provide clients with global legal services.
