Alaska State Senate Highlights on Monday, January 21, 2013:

Senate Education Committee– The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development conducted an overview of education funding and the foundation formula.

Senate Resources Committee– Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan, Deputy Commissioners Joe Balash and Ed Fogels continued their presentation, which began on Friday, on the Department’s accomplishments and its plans for the future. In addition, Petroleum Geologist Paul Decker with the Division of Oil & Gas addressed resource problems and solutions in his presentation: "Who's Keeping the Lights & Heat On?”

9:00 a.m. Senate Finance Committee– Senate Finance 532– Trinity Tomsic will conduct an overview of federal funds for States. Office of Management & Budget Director Karen Rehfeld will present an overview of the Governor’s proposed budgets.

9:00 a.m. Senate Resources Committee– Butrovich 205– Attorney General  Geraghty and Dept. of Natural Resources  Commissioner Sullivan will conduct an overview of federal overreach by the Departments of Law and Natural Resources.

12:00 p.m. Lunch and Learn– Capitol 120— Boy Scouts from Southeast will demonstrate their robotics, sponsored by the Senate Education Committee.

1:00 p.m. Senate Transportation Committee— Senate Finance 532—Commissioner Pat Kemp of the Department of Transportation will conduct an overview of Surface Transportation (incl. Roads to Resources)  Department of Transportation/Public Facilities  (DOT/PF).

 3:30 p.m. Senate Special Committee on TAPS throughput— Beltz 105—Members will discuss the oil and gas production tax. Commissioner Dan Sullivan and Deputy Commissioner Joe Balash of the Department of Natural Resources will be in attendance to give input, as well as Department of Revenue Commissioner Bryan Butcher, and Oil & Gas Development Project Manager Michael Pawlowski of the Department of Revenue.
