Trail Lighting Friday 4pm at Russian Jack Springs Park
Count Down With Neighbors and Funders at a LED Trail Lighting Event
The public is invited to attend the trail lighting event at North Russian Jack Springs Park, Friday January 13th from at 4pm. The park is located at the intersection of 8th and Pine Street. Honored guests include neighbors involved in the Very Important Park committee, and Alaska State Legislators representing this Russian Jack district.
The Alaska State Legislature funded improvements to Russian Jack Springs Park, and a group of engaged volunteers from the Russian Jack and North East Community Council and neighborhoods set the priorities for the plan for this underutilized section of the park. The Anchorage Park Foundation, the Parks and Recreation Department, and Corvus Design have worked to see those priorities installed. The area of focus is between the ball fields and the soccer fields on Pine Street.
In summer of 2012, the Anchorage Park Foundation Year of the Playground, a playground and parking lot will be installed to activate the park land. Beth Nordlund says “the site is currently a vacant piece of moonscape. Trail lighting is the first step towards the neighborhood vision of a vibrant, active, and safe play space.”
Senator Bill Wielechowski says “It is so important for kids to have a safe place to go out and play. With these newly lit trails, we have a great improvement to our world-class trail system.”
The Anchorage Park Foundation will keep you informed about volunteer and giving opportunities for the project this summer at www.AnchorageParkFoundation.
