NEA-Alaska Reacts to Gov. Parnell’s State of State Address
NEA-Alaska President Barb Angaiak is releasing the following statement in response to Governor Sean Parnell’s State of the State address.
“I am shocked at the Governor’s failure to address the needs of K-12 education in Alaska after stating education as a priority,” said Angaiak. “The Governor’s address only pointed to a minimal number of construction/renovation projects and his own merit based scholarship program as far as education priorities. The Governor has taken a flat funding approach for Alaska’s schools for three years and our children have only one shot at a quality education. Educators must prepare Alaskan students to compete in the workforce and higher education programs. Governor Parnell doesn’t appear interested in providing the tools to get this done.”
President Angaiak represents the organization’s 13,000 Alaskan members, making it the state’s largest union.
