Glacier Bay Lodge wins Outstanding Property of the Year
Anchorage, Alaska —January 30, 2012— Four members of the ARAMARK Parks and Destinations team were recognized by the Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association’s Stars of the Industry Awards held Jan. 14 in Anchorage. The employees honored were: Paulette Parsons, Front Office Manager of the Year; Brian Huling, Rising Star Award; Drew Cottle, Guest Services Manager of the Year; and Carol Fraser, Sales Manager of the Year. Glacier Bay Lodge won top honors of the night by being recognized as the Outstanding Property of the Year.
Each year, the Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association’s Stars of the Industry Awards program recognizes exceptional service and achievements in the hospitality industry. The awards honor star performers who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments and celebrate employees and hotel properties that best symbolize the highest quality of service in the industry.
“On behalf of ARAMARK Parks and Destinations, we are extremely proud of these four professionals and the entire team at Glacier Bay Lodge,” said David Sloma, vice president of operations for ARAMARK Parks and Destinations. “Both of our lodging operations in Alaska were represented, showing our commitment to excellence and outstanding work on the part of all our managers and associates.”
Paulette Parsons is the front office manager for the McKinley Chalet Resort, a 345 room property located near the entrance to Denali National Park. Paulette plays a huge part in the entire operation of the lodge. One of her clients wrote, “having Paulette stationed at the McKinley Chalet Resort during our busy summer season is so reassuring. We now send all our groups to the Chalet knowing that our clients will receive the best service possible.”
Brian Huling is the inventory manager for ARAMARK in Alaska He started as an intern four years ago, moving quickly to assistant front office manager, then front office manager and most recently to his current position. Brian’s supervisor wrote, “I can throw any problem, issue, or new idea to Brian and he comes back with a thorough analytical evaluation of what will or won’t work.”
Drew Cottle is a guest services manager at the McKinley Chalet Resort. He specializes in making everyone happy. Drew loved nothing more this summer than finding those who didn’t have their itinerary complete and discussing activity options ranging from an eight-hour bus tour of Denali National Park to landing on a glacier in a bush plane. His supervisor states, “Drew was instrumental in helping us reach all of our sales goals this summer while providing outstanding service.”
Carol Fraser is the regional director of sales and marketing for ARAMARK in Alaska. She has more than 20 years experience in the Alaska tourism industry. One of Carol’s co-workers wrote, “under her purview we have managed through very troubling times in the Alaska tourism industry. Carol is creative, hard working and passionate - not just about the success of ARAMARK - but the Alaska Tourism Industry as a whole.”
Glacier Bay Lodge is the only commercial lodge located inside the Park. During the 2011 season the lodge and its partner, the Huna Totem Corporation, expanded the Arist in Residence program to allow guests to interact with the Native artists working at the Lodge. Huna Totem’s director of interpretive services states,”Glacier Bay Lodge has gone above and beyond in their efforts to reach out to the local community and to play a more integral role as a community partner.”
The winners were announced at the annual Alaska Hotel and Lodging Association’s Stars of the Industry Awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 14th, 2012 at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel. Thirty-nine awards were given that evening from 174 nominations that were received. Winners in each category will go on to compete in the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s annual Stars of the Industry Awards program.
