Senator Begich Welcomes Spring 2011 Interns


U.S. Sen. Mark Begich today announced he is welcoming a group of Spring Interns to his offices in Washington, D.C., Anchorage, Juneau and Fairbanks. Nine Alaskans started their internships this week and will work in Sen. Begich’s offices until May.

“This is another distinguished class of young Alaskans who will proudly serve our state by helping Alaskans and learning about the legislative process,” Begich said. “My staff and I enjoy working with and getting to know each of the young Alaskans we host, and this class of interns is already working and making a difference in our offices.”

Washington, D.C:

Rafi Bortnick
From Anchorage, Rafi lives in Washington, D.C. while attending American University where he is pursuing a degree in History. Rafi is a 2007 graduate of Steller Secondary School in Anchorage.

Olivia Burzynska-Hernandez
A member of Sen. Begich’s Fall 2009 class of interns, Olivia returns to Sen. Begich’s office while applying to graduate schools for an MA in International Relations.  Olivia is from Fairbanks and graduated from the University of Oregon in 2010 with a BA in International Relations.

Connor Cole
A Fairbanksan with an interest in politics, Connor recently completed an MA in Mathematics from Charleton College in Minnesota. Connor is a 2003 graduate of Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.

Andres Chovil
A 2008 Chugiak High School graduate, Andres lives in the Washington D.C. metro area while attending George Mason University in Virginia. Andres is working towards a degree in Government and International Relations.
