Habitat for Humanity Hosting Informational Sessions in January for Future Homeownership Opportunities
Interested families and volunteers should contact the Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage office.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (January 4, 2010) - Habitat for Humanity is hosting 23 informational sessions in January for future homeownership opportunities. Anyone interested in learning more about Habitat's housing program or those who would like to receive an application must attend one of the sessions scheduled this month. Interested families should contact the Habitat for Humanity - Anchorage main office at (907) 272-0800.
In the last two years, over 250 families have contacted Habitat seeking affordable housing solutions. We have contacted those interested families and are extending the invite to other potential applicants in Anchorage. The demand for affordable housing is great and we are increasing our construction to build seven houses with two, three or four bedrooms in 2011.
The qualifications for Habitat Partner Families are need, ability to repay a zero-interest mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat. Need is evaluated by current living conditions and family income ranging between 30% and 60% of the Anchorage median income. Income and previous financial commitments are evaluated when determining the likelihood of a successful mortgage repayment. A family's willingness to partner, with 250-500 hours of volunteer labor, consumer credit counseling, and homeownership education is also evaluated. It is also our hope that the Partner Families will continue to volunteer with Habitat as advocates, mentors and translators for years to come.
Please help us spread the word. If you know of a family who might be interested, have them call the Habitat office at 907.272.0800 to save their seat as space is limited in each session. Translation in Arabic, French, Hmong, Russian and Spanish is available at select sessions.
We also need volunteers for the informational sessions in January and to be a part of our Family Selection Committee during February and March to help select the Partner Families from among the applicants. Interested persons should call the Habitat Office at (907) 272-0800 or email email@example.com.
