Governor Parnell Orders Flags Lowered For Arizona Shooting Victims
January 10, 2011, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags lowered to half-staff beginning today in honor and memory of the victims of Saturday’s shooting in Arizona that left six dead and 14 injured.
“I urge all Alaskans to pause today and remember those who lost their lives in this senseless tragedy,” Governor Parnell said. “It is truly tragic when Americans are killed by such a horrific, criminal act while going about their daily lives. Sandy and I offer our prayers for all the victims and their families.”
President Barack Obama has ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds through January 14, 2011 at sunset.
Six people were killed, including a federal judge, outside of a grocery store in Tucson. Fourteen were injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Flags will remain at half-staff until Friday at sunset in accordance with the president’s proclamation.###
