Alyeska Resort Introduces Gear Registration Program

Alyeska Resort recognizes need for additional precautions to protect guest equipment,
launches equipment registration program

January 17, 2011 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Due to growing winter business levels, Alyeska Resort is developing proactive outreach programs designed to protect guests and their winter equipment. Especially over the busy holiday and weekend timeframes, Alyeska Resort has monitored increasing levels of equipment theft on property. The resort is introducing a number of new initiatives to promote safety and protection of winter equipment so that guests will have tangible solutions.

Following the success of many similar programs in Western U.S. states, the resort has approached the Alaska State Trooper office in Girdwood to help support a newly launched winter equipment registration program. The program provides a simple registration process for users offered at no charge. Registrants will receive numerically bar-coded stickers to apply to their equipment. The resort will maintain a record of all registered equipment. When equipment is reported missing, the resort will log the information for tracking purposes. Equipment reported stolen will also be recorded by the Alaska State Troopers in a statewide database. This outreach program is also designed to work in concert with partners in the area so that stolen equipment can be identified and tracked to prevent further abuse such as reselling.

The resort has also installed new Ski Key System locking ski and snowboard racks providing additional security for guest equipment. The new racks will be available at the hotel and tram base area, Daylodge base area, Sitzmark and the upper tram terminal. To utilize the racks, guests will be able to purchase a proprietary lock at either the Alyeska Mountain Shop or Max’s Mountain Shop for $20 each.

The resort highly encourages guests to monitor their equipment and to avoid leaving equipment unattended for long periods of time or overnight. For more information about the gear registration program or the new locking racks, please visit www.AlyeskaResort.com.
