Pick. Click. Give. Campaign Begins on Friday, January 1st
ANCHORAGE – Alaskans are encouraged to start the New Year off right by donating all or part of their Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). January 1st is the first day Alaskans can go online to apply for their PFD, and it’s the second year they’ll have the option to Pick. Click. Give. to qualifying nonprofit organizations, community foundations or campuses of the University of Alaska.
“This year, we’re hoping more people will choose to participate,” said Cassandra Stalzer, communications manager for Rasmuson Foundation. “It’s an easy way to support your favorite cause, and just think what can be accomplished if each person gave just a small amount of their dividend? If each Alaskan gave just $25, we could raise more than $15 million, which would go a long way toward helping Alaskans facing homelessness or hunger, or would provide welcome relief for arts and other community organizations.”
Last year, more than 5,100 Alaskans gave approximately $550,000 to more than 330 organizations through the Pick. Click. Give. campaign. Organizations received between $25 and $28,000 in donations.
More than 360 organizations have qualified for the 2010 PFD check-off program, representing a full spectrum of nonprofits across the state. Alaskans are encouraged to visit www.PickClickGive.org now to see a list of qualifying organizations or search based on their interest area so they can decide what they want to support before going online to apply for the PFD.
To donate all or part of their PFD, Alaskans just need to apply for their dividend online beginning Jan. 1 at http://www.pfd.state.ak.us/ApplyOnline.aspx, then choose the groups they would like to support. An improved search feature makes it simple to find the Alaska nonprofit you’d like to support. Search options include keyword, city, organization type or program. Or you can just browse an alphabetical listing of all of the qualifying organizations. The PFD filing period begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 and continues through March 31, 2010.
More information on Pick. Click. Give. can be found at www.PickClickGive.org or by calling 1-888-785-GIFT. Alaskans can interact with the campaign on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube and CauseCast, a cause-related video sharing site.
