Murkowski Signs Letter Urging Public Health Care Negotiations
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has signed on to a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid urging that any negotiations regarding a final health care reform bill be conducted in public.
All 40 Senate Republicans signed the letter to Reid, after it was reported this week that President Obama and Democrat congressional leaders will bypass a formal conference committee to reconcile the differences in each chamber's health care bill. Instead, the Democrats are expected to craft a final bill behind closed doors and without any Republican input.
The chairman of C-SPAN, the network responsible for broadcasting Congress's deliberations, has offered to televise all negotiation sessions live, and the 40 Republican senators urged Reid to take C-SPAN up on its offer.
