Governor Mourns the Loss of Fort Richardson Paratrooper

January 11, 2010, Kenai, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Jason Hickman, who suffered fatal injuries last week at Combat Outpost Bowri in Tana, Afghanistan. Hickman died after his post was hit by small arms fire and a vehicle carrying an explosive.

“Sgt. 1st Class Hickman was a noble soldier, and his death is a terrible loss,” Governor Parnell said. “His honorable service to our country will always be remembered. I encourage all Alaskans to join Sandy and me in keeping his family and fellow soldiers in their thoughts and prayers.”

Sgt. 1st Class Hickman, 35, of Kingsport, Tennessee, was a combat engineer assigned to A Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.
