Bethel Public Health Center closed to walk-in services during repairsSeptic tank collapse leaves building without water
Jan. 14, 2010 (Anchorage, AK) - The Bethel Public Health Center will be closed for approximately two weeks as repairs are made to a collapsed septic tank.
The problem was discovered on Tuesday evening by the janitorial staff. The collapse of the tank resulted in the loss of all plumbing service to the building.
The building's owners have engineers and contractors on-site to evaluate the extent of damage and initiate repairs.
Engineers determined that the center staff could work safely in the building, although there are no restroom facilities. Due to expected power outages during repairs, all vaccine from the center has been relocated to the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) to ensure its safety until electricity is stabilized in the building. No walk-in patient services are being offered until the water/sewer system can be repaired.
Bethel residents are encouraged to call the public health center to inquire about alternative sources for health-care services until repairs can be completed.
