Alyeska Resort Celebrates the Love of Snow with Family Activities and Snow Awareness at Winterfest 2010January 22, 2010 (Girdwood, Alaska) - The Vernal Equinox is March 20, 2010 at which point Southcentral Alaskans will start enjoying more hours of daylight each day than the rest of the US. Until then, Alyeska Resort plans to celebrate the heart of winter during the annual Winterfest weekend event scheduled for February 5 to 7, 2010.
In anticipation of the big game on Sunday, February 7th, Alyeska will be offering two for one lift tickets on Superbowl Sunday. Pre-game coverage starts at 1 p.m. providing skiers and riders ample time to make turns when Alyeska's lifts open at 10:30 a.m. Guests can slide right into the Sitzmark Bar & Grill or Aurora Bar & Grill where Superbowl Specials will be featured on the menus throughout game day. The lift ticket offer is valid on purchases of All-Day or Half-Day lift tickets (some restrictions may apply).
Alyeska Resort will be highlighting two new event programs this weekend both dedicated to the Alyeska Ski Patrol and their newly developed Avalanche Dog Rescue Program. The first notable event is a fundraiser featuring members of Alyeska's Ski Patrol in a live auction with auctioneer extraordinaire, Paul McGuire. Taking place on Friday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Sitzmark Bar & Grill, ten select members of ski patrol will be working the catwalk for winning bids. The prize is an early morning ski outing and lunch at Seven Glaciers with each auctioned patroller. The event is free. There is also a raffle for a pair of K2® Pontoon skis. Proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Alyeska Resort Avalanche Dog Program.
On Sunday, February 7th, the resort is hosting a Beacon & Eggs Breakfast Hunt from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tickets to the breakfast are $15 and will be available at any Alyeska Ticket Office or by calling 907-754-2275. Participants will enjoy breakfast and a presentation by Alyeska Resort's snow safety experts and then head out to the EZ Searcher Beacon Park for hands-on practice sessions with professional guides. The $15 entry fee includes breakfast and a chance to win a new Mammut® Pulse Barryvox Avalanche Beacon. Proceeds from this event will also benefit the Avalanche Dog Program.
Throughout the weekend, there will be a variety of other on-snow and free kids' activities from demo skis, snowshoe and cross country tours, head to head gate races, kids scavenger hunt, face painting, and more. At night on Saturday, February 6th, the Alyeska Resort Daylodge will be transformed into a Kid's Night Out from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Kids ages two to twelve can work out their winter energy with an inflatable Bouncy House and live music lessons with local musicians Sarah-n-Dippity. Entry is $20 and includes a kids pizza party and refreshments. For more Winterfest event details, go to AlyeskaResort.com.
Winterfest is also the last weekend for low-season savings at The Hotel Alyeska. The Ski & Stay Package, which includes a one-night stay in a moderate room, lift tickets and breakfast for two adults, starts from $109 per person. (Based on double occupancy; includes taxes and fees, subject to availability.) To make a reservation, please call 907-754-2111.
