HRSA Gives SEARHC a Perfect Score

Last week, SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) completed its latest Operational Site Visit conducted by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), the agency that provides grant funding dedicated to the operation of our primary care clinics outside of Juneau and Sitka. The visit was extremely successful with the preliminary HRSA report showing SEARHC met 100% of the 19 measured criteria.

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the United States Department of the Treasury announced the approval of Alaska’s 1332 State Innovation Waiver application. Alaska sought a 1332 waiver to implement the Alaska Reinsurance Program (ARP) for 2018 and future years in an effort to stabilize the individual healthcare market.

Gene Quinn, M.D., M.S. joins AHVI from Harvard Medical School, where he is completing a Patient Safety and Quality fellowship program. The Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute is proud to welcome Mark M. Levin, M.D., M.S. Dr. Levin will join the AHVI team on September 18. He is board-certified in general surgery and a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine, as well as a Master of Science in physiology and biophysics. Dr. Levin also holds a Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience with a concentration in cellular & molecular neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University.

The Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute Gains Advanced Heart Failure Fellow

The Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute is pleased to announce the addition of Jacob Kelly, M.D., who comes to Alaska after pursuing his training across three different regions of the United States. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in evolutionary biology and ecology at Texas Tech University, he attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and earned a Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Kelly completed his internship, residency and was chief resident at UT-Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, TX before beginning his cardiovascular disease fellowship and a subsequent 2-year research fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He is scheduled to join the team on August 1.
