The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and Fortune announced yesterday Midnight Sun Home Care (MSHC) made the 2017 Inner City 100 list. The list, revealed at the 19th Annual Awards and Conference in Boston on October 3rd, ranks the fastest-growing inner city businesses in America by revenue growth. MSHC ranks 96, reporting a five-year growth rate of 61 percent from 2012-2016. MSHC’s feature and the full list is available on Fortune’s website.

Alaska Labor Commissioner Heidi Drygas and U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship Alaska director John Hakala joined Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Chief Executive Officer Roald Helgesen to sign standards of apprenticeship for the Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) occupation. ANTHC, the State of Alaska, and the U.S. Department of Labor have worked together for two years to build the curriculum and coordinate with regional Tribal health providers to establish this new Registered Apprenticeship.

SEARHC awarded $1.7M grants for women’s health screenings and preventive care

SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) was recently awarded a $927,871 grant for breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). The annual grant supports breast cancer screenings (mammograms), cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests), diagnosis, and case management at SEARHC facilities throughout Southeast Alaska for five years, potentially bringing more than 4.6 million dollars to the region to help patients. This funding includes support for the mobile mammogram vehicle that travels by ferry to multiple rural Southeast Alaska communities without access to mammography.
