Division of Oil and Gas issues Five-Year Leasing Program plan
(Anchorage, AK) – The Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas today released its annual Five-Year Program of Proposed Oil and Gas Lease Sales for the period 2014 to 2018. The publication outlines planned oil and gas lease sales for the next five years, as well as sale results for the past year.
“By annually updating our five-year Program plan, the oil, gas, and geothermal industry knows what land is available and can invest in our oil, gas and geothermal resources,” said Division Director Bill Barron.
The plan calls for five areawide lease sales to be held each year, with the Alaska Peninsula and Cook Inlet lease sales in the spring and the Beaufort Sea, North Slope and North Slope Foothills lease sales in the fall. Contained in the 53-page plan are descriptions of the best interest findings process and the geography of the sale areas, a summary of statewide competitive lease sales from 1959 to 2013, a description of bidder qualification requirements, and a summary of oil and gas exploration and development incentives. The plan also includes an overview of the statewide Exploration Licensing Program and Geothermal Leasing Program.
