UAS Sitka reminds students FAFSA Frenzy deadline is Feb. 28

SITKA, Alaska, Feb. 22, 2013 – Going to college is a great way to learn a new career and increase your earning power. But how do you pay for it?

During the month of February, the University of Alaska has been hosting FAFSA Frenzy, with a drawing for six $100 Visa gift cards going to students who submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before Thursday, Feb. 28. Successful applicants can receive four types of financial aid – grants, loans, scholarships and federal work study.

The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus can help students complete their FAFSA. There will be a workshop at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at the UAS Sitka Campus Student Success Center for local and distance students. UAS Sitka Campus representatives also have hosted FAFSA workshops at Sitka High School and Mount Edgecumbe High School during February.

Nationally, two out of every three undergraduate college students receive financial aid. The University of Alaska awards more than $100 million in financial aid each year, and most of the students qualified for the assistance by filling out the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov.  All federal financial aid requires a FAFSA.

To learn more about financial aid available at the UAS Sitka Campus, contact April Wilson Susky at 747-7703 or the Student Success Center at 747-7717.
