2013 Pride Fest to be held June 8 to 16 throughout Anchorage

ANCHORAGE— Alaska Pride Fest, a program of Identity, Inc., today announced 2013’s Pride Fest will be held June 8 to 16 with a series of new and returning events throughout Anchorage.

“Pride Fest 2013 welcomes all of Anchorage and all of Alaska to join in celebrating the life-changing advancements in equality that are occurring daily for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals,” said Phyllis Rhodes, co-chair of the Alaska Pride Fest Committee.

This year’s Alaska Pride Fest theme is “Our State of Pride,” chosen by the Alaska Pride Fest Committee to represent the statewide diversity and contribution that still exists from the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community.

New to this year’s event lineup during Alaska Pride Fest is a revamped, and musically charged, Pride Fest March, taking place of the annual parade on Saturday, June 15. Details on the Pride Fest March will be released this April.

Confirmed businesses and organizations hosting major Pride Fest events during Pride Fest week includes Bear Tooth Theatrepub, Bernie’s Bungalow Lounge, The Raven. Mad Myrna’s, Out North Contemporary Art House, and Snow City Café, to name a few.

“The importance of the Alaska Pride Fest is that it allows the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community an opportunity to celebrate their diversity with the entire community, as well as each other,” said Anne Marie Moylan, co-chair of the Alaska Pride Fest committee.

Identity, Inc. and the 2013 Alaska Pride Fest Committee have launched a new website, AlaskaPride.org, featuring a working list of events, sponsors, and details on this year’s Alaska Pride Fest March and Festival.
The Alaska Pride Fest website, Facebook, Twitter and Blog pages will be updated regularly leading up to Alaska Pride Fest week.

Past Alaska Pride Fest themes have included Step Up, Step Out; 2010: A Pride Odyssey; The Last Queer Frontier; Out in Alaska; Pride & Joy, and Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Pride, to name a few.
