New BLS Data: Anchorage prices up 3.6% over the year, led by rising gasoline prices

The latest Consumer Price Index news release for the greater Anchorage area is now available from BLS at http://www.bls.gov/ro9/cpianch.pdf.

Items of note include:

  • Area prices increased 1.1% in the second half of 2011, and 3.6% over the last 12 months
  • Energy prices rose 10.1% over the year, influenced by increasing gasoline prices (up 14.8%) and electricity prices (up 9.6%)
  • Natural gas service prices decreased 7.6% over the year
  • Food prices rose 2.6% from the first half of 2011, while up 5.5% over the last 12 months
