Summary data on energy production, consumption, stocks, trade, and prices
The February 2012 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics, was released on February 27, 2012. Preliminary data indicate that for November 2011:
- U.S. coal production totaled 1.9 quadrillion Btu, which represented 28 percent of U.S. total primary energy production. U.S. coal consumption totaled 1.4 quadrillion Btu, which represented 19 percent of U.S. total primary energy consumption.
- Coal accounted for 25 percent of U.S. primary energy exports and 1 percent of U.S. primary energy imports.
- U.S. coal consumption accounted for 44 percent of electric power sector primary energy consumption, 8 percent of industrial sector primary energy consumption, and 1 percent of commercial sector primary energy consumption. U.S. coal consumption accounted for less than 1 percent of residential sector primary energy consumption.
