Cupid’s arrow hits Alaska Pacific University donor appreciation reception
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - This year’s romantically themed event, complete with a chocolate dipping fountain, Godiva desserts and glasses of bubbly, created an elegant ambiance for honoring Alaska Pacific University’s largest financial contributors.
University donors weren’t the only ones doused with affection at this year’s invite-only event. The Valentine’s Day theme played out with grandeur when Sen. Lesil McGuire accepted a public wedding proposal from boyfriend and attorney Jason Skala. For video of the full proposal visit http://vimeo.com/36877675.
“The Valentine’s Day reception is a fun way to show appreciation for the people and organizations that make it possible to do what we do,” said Alaska Pacific University President Dr. Don Bantz. “This year, Cupid’s arrow really hit the mark!”
In honor of one of the university’s longtime supporters, the event featured a special naming ceremony of one of the art galleries on campus.
The Leah J. Peterson Gallery, named after the late Alaska educator and Alaska Pacific University advocate, is a regular participant in community art events and features original works from around the world. It is located in the Carr Gottstein Academic Center on campus.
“Naming the gallery is a small thing we can do to acknowledge someone who has supported the university in a huge way,” said Bantz. “Her legacy lives on.”
Donor support is essential to Alaska Pacific University’s ability to offer an affordable, Ivy League-quality education – with the top student/ teacher ratio in the country.
The Denali Society was established to recognize those individuals and businesses that support the life and work of Alaska Pacific University in a substantial manner. Through annual gifts of $1,000 or more, Denali Society members set an exemplary standard of giving and provide leadership in their financial support of the university. Members receive substantial annual benefits in thanks for their contributions.
The next funder event is the fundraiser Gala scheduled for June 13. Attendees of the Gala will receive an invitation to next year’s appreciation reception.
