Begich Provides Relief to Alaska’s Middle Class Families, Small Businesses
Supports Senate Package to Extend Middle Class Tax Cut, Jobless Benefits
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich today voted in favor of extending the payroll tax cut, unemployment insurance, and payments to Medicare doctors through the end of this year. The measure will help 160 million working Americans, including 400,000 individual Alaskans and 20,000 small businesses. The Senate package also helps ensure that seniors on Medicare continue to have access to their doctors.
The measure passed the U.S. Senate by a vote of 60-36. Sen. Begich released the following statement after the vote:
“As we continue to work toward long-term budget solutions for our country, today was a big win for millions of Americans, including thousands of Alaskans, who will keep an additional $1,000 a month in their pockets with the extension of the payroll tax cut.
“I hope this is a sign of more bipartisan progress to be made down the road because this vote demonstrates that we can continue do big things when we work together.”
