Anchorage First - Program Promotes Local Spending During Slow Consumer Months
THIS SPRING, GET OUT AND TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS
Local economic development organizations urge consumers to shop locally
Anchorage, AK- As most Anchorage businesses know, consumer spending decreases significantly during the months leading up to summer. But four organizations are working to reverse that trend.
For the third year, the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd., and Visit Anchorage are launching Anchorage First, a program designed to encourage local spending by consumers during the months of March, April and May.
Through television, print and online advertising, as well as social media, Anchorage First hopes to educate consumers about the multiplier effect of local spending: if every household in Anchorage spent $25 a month locally for 3 months, it would generate nearly $10 million dollars in the local economy.
Additionally, the organizations are encouraging member businesses to participate in the program by filling out an online participation form, hanging "Anchorage First" signs at their business, and offering discount packages and special savings to help bring in more customers.
