Alaska Chamber - Capitol Notes February 6, 2012

Capitol Notes
February 6 – 10, 2012

In this issue:

  • Take Action Today!
  • Legislative Committee Hearings

Take Action Today
The top legislative priority for the Alaska Chamber during the 2012 session is oil tax reform. HB 110, the Governor’s oil tax reform bill that passed the House last year addresses this issue.  HB 110 is awaiting a hearing in the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee.  Senate leaders have stated they will introduce another oil tax reform bill, and a hearing is scheduled “pending introduction” Friday, February 10, in Senate Resources.  The good news is that the Senate is talking about oil tax reform.  The bad news is we don’t yet know whether they’re talking about meaningful reform.  Meaningful reform will make Alaska competitive in the national and global markets and Alaska will begin the hard work filling Alaska’s pipeline.

Another top priority for the Alaska Chamber during this session is injunction security for industrial operations.  HB 168 passed the House and awaits a hearing in the Senate Labor and Commerce committee.

Please let your Senator know you support meaningful oil tax reform (like HB 110), and HB 168. Retrieve Legislative contact information here.

Committee Schedule
The following list of committee meetings addressing issues and bills important to Alaska Chamber members for the upcoming week.  For a complete list of bills visit the BASIS web site.  Most of these meetings are teleconferenced.  The legislature also started to stream all committee meetings in the capitol.  You can check it out athttp://alaskalegislature.tv/ . If you would like to testify, it is best if you go through your local LIO office.  If you are unable to go through your local LIO office, you must call the Chair of the Committee in which the bill is being heard for "authorization" and an off-net call in number.
