AEDC Economic Forecast Luncheon Featuring Mr. Steve Forbes: from January 25, 2012

Two weeks ago, AEDC held the most successful event in its history.  The sold out 2012 Economic Forecast Luncheon, featuring Mr. Steve Forbes, drew an amazing audience of over 1,500, the biggest business sit-down event ever held in Anchorage or Alaska.  All of us at AEDC deeply appreciate this incredible show of support from the business community for this event.

I personally would like to thank all of our 55 event sponsors whose contributions made this such a successful event for AEDC.  In particular, I would like to thank GCI as our keynote speaker sponsor and for providing the statewide broadcast of the event.

For those of you who weren’t able to attend the luncheon, the 1-year Economic Forecast and the Business Confidence Index are both available at our website.  In addition, thanks to the innovative support of the Chariot Group, the full event presentation has also been posted on the AEDC website, including the entire video feed and presentations.  Our website is www.aedcweb.com.

This event was only the beginning of a great year of events and efforts at AEDC.  2012 marks AEDC’s 25th anniversary and AEDC is hosting a number of additional great events you can participate in over the next 11 months.  These events include:

  • Peter Kageyama “For the Love of Cities” luncheon and workshop, Hotel Captain Cook, February 23, 2012
This workshop will focus on helping Anchorage citizens learn how to create a city in which people can fall in love with.  In support of the AEDC Live. Work. Play. initiative, the luncheon will precede an afternoon workshop with noted author Peter Kageyama, who recently published the highly regarded book, “For the Love of Cities.”

You must RSVP to attend this event as seating is limited.  RSVP by email to mgould@aedcweb.com.

  • 2012 10-Year Resource Extraction Projection update, Anchorage Downtown Marriott, April 4, 2012.
This is our second annual event in which AEDC presents it updated 10-year outlook for oil and gas and mining projects, jobs and investments across Alaska.  Last year over 100 local business leaders attended this event and this year’s event will be equally well attended.  The Projection is a joint effort between AEDC and the Petroleum News and North of 60 Mining news with both publications providing the factual research and analysis used in detailed and comprehensive overview of both existing and proposed oil and gas and mining projects throughout Alaska.  You can review the 2011 Projection by clicking here.

Watch for details in the near future on how to participate in this event at our website, www.aedcweb.com.

  • AEDC Economic Outlook Luncheon, Dena’ina Convention Center, July 25, 2012.
The July Luncheon is AEDC’s other big event and has grown dramatically in recent years with over 1,000 attendees in 2011.  This year has all the hallmarks of an even bigger attendance.  The AEDC original 9-member Board of Directors met for the first time in July, 1987 and we are pulling out all the stops to celebrate this important milestone.

Besides our mid-year update on the AEDC 2012 jobs projection, AEDC will release its annual 3-year Economic Forecast for the Anchorage economy that projects 8 key economic indicators.  You can view 2011 Economic Forecast by clicking here.

In addition, we are proud to announce that our featured speaker at this year’s event will be Mr. Robert Reich, former U.S. Secretary of Labor, noted economist, national recognized commentator on politics and the economy and noted author.  His latest book, “Aftershock: The next economy and America’s future” is a best seller.  You can learn more about Mr. Reich by clicking here.

Watch our website, www.aedcweb.com, for more information about these many other great events, programs and efforts at AEDC.

Our message this year is one of optimism for the coming year.  We are growing, we are confident, and we aspire to make Anchorage an even better community in which to Live, Work and Play.

As always, thank you for your support of AEDC.

Best regards,
