Sen. Murkowski Welcomes First Oil Production at Eni FieldWASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today congratulated the members of oil company Eni's Alaska team for successfully beginning production at their Nikaitchuq field.
"This is great news for Alaska. It is exactly the kind of project we like to see because it shows our resources can be safely developed and globally competitive," Murkowski said. "The future of the trans-Alaska pipeline, and most likely the state, depend on our ability to increase oil production."
Nikaitchuq is located offshore of the North Slope of Alaska at an average water depth of less than 10 feet. The field, which is Eni's first operated Arctic project, has recoverable reserves estimated at 220 million barrels of oil. Nikaitchuq is expected to produce for more than 30 years, with peak production of 28,000 barrels of oil per day.
