McCain's EAS amendment is DOA: Sen. Begich Keeps Essential Air Service Program Alive for Alaska
Sen. John McCain's amendment to the FAA Reauthorization bill to eliminate funding for the Essential Air Service Program (EAS) has just been voted to be tabled in the U.S. Senate.
The vote was 61 to 38 to table the amendment.
Sen. Begich has been working for the past two weeks to defeat the amendment that provides critical support for air carriers in 44 Alaska communities.
With the amendment now being tabled, the EAS program is intact in the Senate pending the final passage of the FAA Reauthorization bill.
We are expecting a vote on FAA tonight or tomorrow.
