AK Dept. of Labor Info Available Now to Help Families of Displaced
Nikiski LNG Workers

(Juneau) - Following meetings last night and this morning, House
Labor & Commerce Committee Chair Kurt Olson, R-Kenai, announced today
that the state plans to open rapid response centers for workers and
families affected by the Nikiski LNG plant closure. Olson, who
represents Kenai and Soldotna, has met with Alaska Dept. of Labor &
Workforce Development Commissioner Click Bishop and the governor's
office about their plans to provide support.

"The department will provide support to workers at the gas plant who
are facing layoffs, working closely with the plant's human resources
staff," Olson said. "The preliminary plan is to offer re-employment
workshops and job search services to those workers and their family
members who want to participate. Commissioner Bishop is encouraging
folks to take advantage of this program, and so am I. The state is
stepping forward early, which is welcome and I join with Speaker
Chenault and Senator Wagoner in expressing our support for these
