Statement from Mayor Dan Sullivan on the Death of Jim BowlesLynnette and I are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Jim Bowles in this sudden and tragic accident. Jim's generosity in giving back to our community set a high standard for Alaska business leaders. His legacy of investment in our community and commitment to the people of our state was an example to all of us. Just recently I was pleased to tour the Conoco Phillips Integrated Science Building at UAA. This project, which will greatly enhance the quality of life in the city's U-Med district, became reality under Jim's leadership. Countless other examples of Jim's vision are evident around Anchorage and, indeed, the entire state.
On a personal note, it was my distinct pleasure to get to know Jim in the last few years not only as a civic leader but as a friend. His endorsement of my mayoral campaign meant a lot to me, and I won't ever forget it.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family and the entire ConocoPhillips organization as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
Lynnette and I also pray that Alan Gage, a well-known member of ConocoPhillips' capital projects organization, will be found soon.
