Engineers to Practice Spill ResponseELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska - Air Force members of the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron will team up with U.S. Coast Guardsmen and the Navy's Supervisor of Salvage to practice oil and fuel recovery procedures on Sixmile Lake here Feb. 22-25.
Ice Ops is an annual exercise to prepare for hazardous material spills in arctic conditions.
During this exercise, agencies will practice techniques with equipment designed for surface and under-ice spills. Technicians use this training for real-world spill response, such as the recent fuel spills at Adak Island and the tug that ran aground at Bligh Reef.
