Begich Congratulates Fur Rondy for Proceeding with Poker Tournament
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich Feb. 26 released the following statement after news that the State Department of Revenue issued a decision allowing the Fur Rendezvous winter festival to bring back its charity poker tournament:
"I am thrilled to hear the State has reconsidered its opinion and the Fur Rondy poker tournament will be part of the activities this year. As I've said in the past, this is a great way to bring Alaskans together, celebrate Fur Rondy, and raise money for charity.
"I look forward to joining the fun at the Alaska Hold'em Tournament of Champions next Saturday night. I'm all in for Fur Rondy and Alaska's non-profits."
On Feb. 1, Begich sent a letter to the State of Alaska asking the ruling which deemed the Fur Rondy tournament illegal gambling be reviewed.
