Alyeska Resort to Host Town Downhill Races
February 5, 2010 (Girdwood, Alaska) –The inaugural Alyeska Resort Town Downhill is a community event that welcomes skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers of all skill levels to compete on a heart-throbbing downhill course. Races will take place on February 9 and 10, 2010 and will have divisions for Men and Women, age 13 and up. Daring competitors will take on the steep slopes of Alyeska at high speeds and the challenge will be to hold it together through the turns from the top of the run to the bottom. The Town Downhill course will begin at the top of Chair 6, continue down Silvertip and end at the Creek Crossing.
The fastest man and woman will win a three day RV rental from ABC Motorhomes along with well deserved bragging rights. Prizes will also be awarded for second and third place in each division. Town Downhill Races mandatory training will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The competition on Wednesday, February 10 will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Registration forms are available online and completed forms can be dropped off at any Alyeska Resort Ticket Office. Parental signature is required for contestants under the age of 18 and helmets are required for all Alyeska Resort competitions. The entry fee is $50 per person, which includes both the training on February 9 and the competition on February 10. A lift ticket is not included in the entry fee.
