December Alaska Economic Trends
December Trends examines Alaska’s military legacy, from its historical buildups and cutbacks to its current center-stage role in Alaska’s economy. Though its presence has waxed and waned, the military has remained a major source of jobs and income since statehood, and especially since World War II. Also this month is an update on Alaska’s workplace fatalities, which have continued to decline overall over the past two decades. Finally, Trends looks at the unusual age structure of Alaska’s homes, which differs considerably from the rest of the nation and was largely shaped by pipeline construction.
