Anchorage Museum publications win professional design awards

The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Alaska Chapter has recognized the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center for excellence in professional design.

AIGA Alaska selected the Anchorage Museum as a silver award winner in the print category for the catalog for “This is Not a Silent Movie: Four Contemporary Alaska Native Artists,” an exhibition curated by the Anchorage Museum that debuted at The Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles. Also in the print category, the Anchorage Museum received an honorable mention for the Northern Initiative booklet and Turning Head Designs received an honorable mention for the Anchorage Museum gala invitation. The Anchorage Museum’s “Arctic Flight: A Century of Alaska Aviation” exhibition design and graphics received a silver award in the campaign category.

Anchorage Museum Exhibits Graphic Designer Jane Rabadi designed the catalogs with art direction from Director Julie Decker. Rabadi, Decker, Don Mohr and the Anchorage Museum exhibits team designed the “Arctic Flight” exhibition.

AIGA, the professional association for design, advances design as a professional craft, strategic advantage and vital cultural force. Entries for AIGA Alaska’s The Big One awards must have been designed by firms or individuals whose primary business is located in the state of Alaska and must have been first published, printed or circulated between Sept. 30, 2012, and Sept. 28, 2013. Winners are chosen for their creativity and originality, composition, quality of messaging, marketing impact, visual design and use of medium.
