New Year’s Eve Annual Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Display
GIRDWOOD, Alaska - As the world counts down the days to 2013, Alyeska Resort is anticipating a busy week with schools on holiday break and many businesses closing their doors between the major holidays. Thanks to grooming and periodic powder days, Alyeska’s snow conditions are looking better and better, with last week’s skiers welcoming the opening of the tram.
On the evening of December 31, 2012, the resort will put on its annual torchlight parade and fireworks show starting at 8:00 P.M. The parade consists of volunteer skiers and snowboarders in a procession down the slope creating a stunning visual effect. Immediately following, fireworks will illuminate the sky for a finale show. This event is free and open to the public. The best viewing is at the Daylodge base area.
Anchorage’s favorite ska band Nervis Rex takes the Sitzmark Bar & Grill stage at 10:00 P.M. Tickets are $10, and they can be purchased at the resort ticket offices, online at AlyeskaResort.com or by calling 907-754-2275.
