AK) – The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development has selected Martin “Marty” Hester as the new Deputy Director of the Division of Insurance; he will start on December 17, 2012.

“Marty stood out due to his private sector property and casualty insurance experience, and his policy interpretation skills,” said Director Bret Kolb. “I am confident he will quickly engage employees, the insurance industry, and the public.”

Hester, a University of Alaska Anchorage graduate, previously worked at Progressive Insurance Company as a senior multi-line representative since 2003. He will be working out of the division’s Juneau office.

The 51-person Division of Insurance is one of 13 agencies within Alaska’s Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. With the department’s mission to promote a healthy economy, strong communities, and protect consumers, the Division of Insurance is joined by Banking and Securities, Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing, and the Regulatory Commission of Alaska, as agencies within the department tasked with consumer protection.
