Begich Statement on NOAA Administrator Resignation

U.S. Senator Mark Begich issued this statement today following the announcement that Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Administrator at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA), announcement that she would step down as head of NOAA this coming February:

“I thank Dr. Lubchenco for her service to our country and for her involvement with Alaskan issues.  During her tenure, NOAA has dramatically intensified its focus on the Arctic, thanks to her leadership.  Public service is never easy, but being a leader in fisheries issues is especially challenging - I thank her for her attention to Alaskan fisheries.”

“ I was pleased to be able to show her so much of Alaska, and am grateful she choose to visit so often.  As the Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries and the Coast Guard, I look forward to ensuring her replacement shares our Alaskan values of science-based fisheries management and responsible Arctic development.”
