Alyeska Resort Encourages Guests to Take Additional Precautions to Protect Their Equipment: Register Your Gear and Use a Lock
December 11, 2012 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Alyeska Resort has seen growth in winter visitation to the resort each season and in a proactive outreach effort, the resort implemented a number of initiatives to help winter guests protect their valuable ski and snowboard equipment. The top two tactics include a free gear registration program and locking ski racks available in key public areas. With the upcoming holiday periods, when the resort is typically bustling, the resort security team highly recommends that guests visiting the resort take additional precautions to protect skis and snowboard equipment.
Following the success of many similar programs in Western U.S. states, the resort approached the Alaska State Troopers’ office in Girdwood to help support a winter equipment registration program. The program provides a simple registration process for users offered at no charge. Registrants will receive numerically bar-coded stickers to apply to their equipment. The resort will maintain a record of all registered equipment.
When equipment is reported missing, the resort will log the information for tracking purposes. Equipment reported stolen will also be recorded by the Alaska State Troopers in a statewide database. This outreach program is also designed to work in conjunction with partners in the area so that stolen equipment can be identified and tracked to prevent further abuse such as reselling. The registration forms are available at either Alyeska Resort Ticket Office or online at www.alyeskaresort.com/registeryourgear.
The resort has also installed locking ski and snowboard racks providing another secure option for guests. The racks are available at the hotel and tram base area, Daylodge base area, Sitzmark and upper tram terminal. To utilize the racks, guests will need to purchase a proprietary lock at the Alyeska Mountain Shop located in the hotel for $20 each.
Alyeska Resort has increased its security monitoring process of high-traffic areas throughout the resort property. To supplement security’s efforts, the resort highly encourages guests to always monitor their equipment and avoid leaving equipment unattended for long periods of time or overnight.
