Real average hourly earnings falls 0.1% in November

REAL EARNINGS  NOVEMBER 2011

Real average hourly earnings for all employees fell 0.1 percent from October to November, seasonally 
adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This decrease stems from a 0.1 percent 
decrease in average hourly earnings, while in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-
U) remained unchanged.

Real average weekly earnings fell 0.1 percent over the month, as a result of the decrease in real average 
hourly earnings combined with the unchanged average workweek. Since reaching a peak in October 
2010, real average weekly earnings have fallen 1.7 percent.

Real average hourly earnings fell 1.5 percent, seasonally adjusted, from November 2010 to November 
2011. A 0.3 percent increase in the average workweek, combined with the decline in real average hourly 
earnings, resulted in a 1.2 percent decrease in real average weekly earnings during the same period.



Production and nonsupervisory employees

Real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees rose 0.2 percent from 
October to November, seasonally adjusted. This increase stems from a 0.1 percent increase in average 
hourly earnings and a 0.1 percent decline in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and 
Clerical Workers (CPI-W).

Real average weekly earnings fell 0.1 percent over the month, as a result of the increase in real average 
hourly earnings combined with a 0.3 percent decrease in the average workweek. Since reaching a peak in 
October 2010, real average weekly earnings for production and nonsupervisory workers have fallen 1.9 
percent.

Real average hourly earnings fell 2.1 percent, seasonally adjusted, from November 2010 to November 
2011. The decrease in real average hourly earnings combined with a 0.3 percent increase in average 
weekly hours resulted in a 1.8 percent decline in real average weekly earnings during this period.

	
Real Earnings for December 2011 is scheduled to be released on Thursday, January 19, 2011 at 
8:30 a.m. (EST).  Release dates for the balance of 2012 are as follows:
