NEA-Alaska Expresses Disappointment in Governor Parnell

NEA-Alaska President Barb Angaiak is releasing the following statement in response to Governor Sean Parnell’s assertion that the State of Alaska does not have a responsibility to properly fund education into the future.  Parnell made the comments during a press conference to discuss his proposed FY12 budget.

“Funding Alaska’s schools represents a moral and constitutional obligation for our leaders,” said Angaiak.  “Our schools are committed to preparing Alaskan students to compete in the global economy, and our legislature must show the willingness to provide the tools to get the job done. Governor Parnell absolutely must provide better leadership in this area.”

President Angaiak represents the organization’s 13,000 Alaskan members, making it the state’s largest union.
