Maria Shepherd & Laura Desmond join URS
Maria Shepherd recently joined URS as a Senior Biologist having recently worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Maria Shepherd is a Senior Biologist with 23 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance. She specializes in research, coordination, and preparation of biological assessments and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents. Ms. Shepherd received her BA in Zoology from UC Santa Barbara and has extensive experience as a technical writer of many different types of environmental compliance documents. She has conducted dozens of biological field studies such as breeding bird surveys, spawning surveys and small mammal trapping to evaluate the impacts of projects on a variety of natural resources.
URS welcomes back Laura Desmond. Ms. Desmond has joined the URS team as a Technical Project Assistant based in URS’ Anchorage, Alaska office. Ms. Desmond has 12 years of environmental consultancy experience working with program directors, project managers, engineers, scientists, subcontractors, and suppliers. She has an extensive background with federal and commercial project controls and management systems, proposal development and management, health and safety protocols and plan development, stakeholder engagement, and administrative record requirements. Her experience also covers research and regulatory documentation, compliance with federal and state legislation, public events and stakeholder meeting coordination and support, presentation development, and document design and production. She is also highly experienced with organizing complex and voluminous data and document control.
